Why this matters

Specimens that ride the automation line get continuous, automatic status updates as they move from instrument to instrument. Specimens that don't — STATs carried by hand, send-outs, specialty tests, anything routed manually — leave a blind spot in SunQuest. No one can say exactly when a tube reached the lab or which bench it was actually dropped at, which slows down "where is my sample" calls and leaves no audit trail for that hand-off.

Movement gives manually routed specimens the same two-checkpoint visibility automation tubes already have. A scan at central processing marks the tube as received and updates SunQuest immediately. A second scan at the destination bench updates SunQuest again to reflect exactly where the specimen was dropped off, creating a simple, timestamped chain of custody for any tube that skips the track.
